8 Must-Dos for Your Wedding!

Without a doubt, wedding planning can be hard. It can feel like there are a million and one things to do. Here are eight things you absolutely must do for your wedding. Please don’t avoid them – they make a huge difference to your big day!

  1. Meet your wedding suppliers – can they meet you at a venue where they work or do they have a shop? Most bakers will want to do tastings with you, and florists will want to match your colours. You need to meet them (and it’s exciting). Ask if your venue can invite you to see the space/s set up? If your DJ is a regular at a venue, pop in for a listen.
  2. Try the food – unless you know your venue really well or have eaten with them before, you should definitely try your wedding food before the big day. You don’t want to be disappointed! Most venues and caterers will understand and allow you to do a tasting. Be prepared to pay a fee, though.
  3. Take out wedding insurance – hopefully you’ll never need it, but better safe than sorry! It’ll cover you for things like suppliers letting you down, sudden cancellations, and disasters.
  4. Set a budget – without a wedding budget the temptation to overspend is HUGE. If you know what money is available you can plan accordingly. You can work out what you need to save and what to buy right away. Importantly, you can plan for what you need available in the final lead-up to the big day. No one wants to run out of money for their wedding.
  5. Have the difficult conversations – don’t put off the tricky chats, even (especially) if someone may be upset or disagree with your decisions. It’s better to get things out in the open and attempt to resolve them before it’s too late.
  6. Don’t be a bride/groom zilla – it’s fine to want things to be perfect. However expecting everyone and everything to adhere to some really strict interpretation of your wedding dream is taking selfishness to another level. You cannot dictate what your guests wear, though you can suggest colours/themes. You cannot tell them how much to spend on your wedding.
  7. Be prepared – accept that you cannot control the weather, but you can control your reaction to it. For example … is bad weather forecast? It’s time to bring out the brollies! You can have a plan B for emergencies. If you get the opportunity for rehearsals or a quick walk through of your big day, go for it. You may be surprised at what you learn.
  8. All the legal stuff – make sure licenses are in place for your ceremony to be legal and that the announcements are done. Get pre-nups sorted, especially if you have kids from a previous relationship. Also, make sure you update your wills after you’re married. Passports, name changes all take time after you’re legally married, so see what can be done before.

One last tip … if you need any help with any aspect of your big day, you know where to find me. X
